In the first of an exclusive series of Euro 2012 comments for R-Sport, striker Kevin Kuranyi brings the experience of 52 German caps to bear on all the hot topics. Today, he shares his thoughts on England’s injury crisis, Russia’s chances and whether Germany can shock Spain.

Many pundits predict England will struggle with a new coach, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand out of the squad and Rooney suspended for the first two games. Do you agree?

"No. Of course it is possible that they will fail. But that is possible for every team. Sometimes problems lead to a stronger team spirit. Remember Italy in 2006!"

Spain have their own problems with David Villa and Carles Puyol out, while Andres Iniesta and Fernando Torres looked exhausted by the end of the season. Are they still the favorites?

"They are still favorites, together with Germany. But I think, this time they lose against Germany."

Who do you expect to be Germany's top scorer?

"I hope my friend Mario Gomez."

How do you evaluate the chances of Croatia and Ireland to send Spain or Italy home after the group stage?

"It's tough to play against Croatia and Ireland - but I still think that Spain and Italy will qualify for the quarterfinals."

Mario Balotelli has promised he’ll behave himself at Euro 2012 - do you believe that? Can such players ever change?

"I don't know him, so I can't judge him. Sorry."

Turning to the Netherlands, some people say now that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is better than Robin van Persie - do you agree?

"They are different kinds of players. Hard to compare."

Greece was the surprise package of Euro 2004, and it was Russia in Euro 2008. Any surprises this time? Who will it be and why?

"I hope Russia can be the surprise again. They have great players with a lot of quality and experience."

Italy’s 3-0 friendly defeat to Russia last week was a shocking result for the Italians. Why do you think they lost so heavily?

"I think you should not take those friendly matches too seriously."

There are a lot of arguments in Russia on who should be the No. 1 goalkeeper - Igor Akinfeev or Vyacheslav Malafeev. What’s your opinion?

"Both are great keepers, and both can help the team - no matter who is playing."

Do you think [your Dynamo Moscow teammate, 21-year-old striker] Alexander Kokorin is mature enough for the national team?

"Yes, he is! I wish him all the best!"

What is your dream final?

"Germany against Russia - but that is not possible."

Name the eight teams you expect to reach the quarterfinals.

"Poland, Russia, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, England"
