Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Tatyana Moskalkova announced on Sunday she had an informal meeting with Ukrainian Ombudsman Valeria Lutkovskaya to discuss the transfer of Ukrainian prisoners from Crimea.

The commissioners have agreed to continue monitoring visits to detention spaces of the both states, according to Moskalkova.

“I held an informal meeting with Ukrainian Human Rights Ombudswoman V.V. Lutkovska. We discussed a transfer of prisoners from Crimea, agreed to continue the practice of joint visits and the information exchange,” Moskalkova posted on her Instagram.

Crimea rejoined Russia after a 2014 referendum, when almost 97 percent of the region's population voted for the reunification. Following the voting, the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia, accusing Moscow of what they referred to as an "annexation," a claim Russian authorities have repeatedly denied saying that the Crimeans had themselves voted for reunifying with Russia and their expression of will must be respected.
