NIZHNY NOVGOROD, September 24 (RIA Novosti) - One person was killed and 34 injured in a brawl and subsequent fire overnight in a high-security prison in Russia's Volga city of Samara, local prosecutors said on Wednesday.
After the riot broke out in Prison No. 6 on the city's outskirts, involving around 50 inmates, a group of prisoners set fire to an administrative building, a warehouse and other facilities.
"One person was killed and 34 were injured in the fire and brawl," a spokesman told RIA Novosti.
Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service said earlier in the day that 13 inmates were injured, while the regional investigation service said 19 inmates and three prison guards were wounded.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
The prison has over 2,000 inmates, of which around 700 are serving sentences of more than 15 years.
