ROSTOV-ON-DON, January 11 (RIA Novosti) - Four suspected militants have been killed in a special police operation in the southern Russian Republic of Ingushetia, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
Early on Sunday, police tried to detain a group of gunmen, who subsequently barricaded themselves in a private house in the town of Ordzhonikidzevskaya, in the republic's Sunzha District.
Three police officers and a local resident were also injured during the ensuing operation.
Investigators, who are currently working at the scene, say the suspected militants could have been behind a recent series of attacks on police officers in the North Caucasus republic.
"According to our information, the eliminated members of the militant group could have been behind a series of attempts to kill police officers," the republic's prosecutor, Yury Turygin, said.
