ROSTOV-ON-DON, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - An officer of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) was killed in a car blast early on Wednesday in the North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia, local officials said.

The republic's interior ministry said the explosion occurred in the republic's main city, Nazran, at 8:35 a.m. Moscow time [04:35 GMT].

A spokesman for the local investigators said: "According to preliminary data, an explosive device planted under the black Lada was detonated."

The force of the blast was equivalent to 0.5 kg of TNT.

The victim, who died immediately, was identified as Magomed Tokhov, an aide to the local FSB department's legal affairs director.

Terrorist attacks and militant clashes remain common in the Russian republics of Ingushetia and Daghestan, and in neighboring Chechnya, although the Kremlin has ended its campaign to fight separatists and terrorists there.
