YEKATERINBURG, June 15 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will do everything possible for a modern political system to take root in Afghanistan, President Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting with his Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai.
"We will do everything that depends on us for Afghanistan to establish its own modern effective political system and attain further development. There are problems that create a threat to our countries, to all our neighbors, that we deal with together," he said.
"In this regard, our constant consultations are both productive and useful," the Russian leader said.
Karzai thanked Medvedev for his support.
"I thank you for your country's assistance to Afghanistan, especially for the last seven years," he said. "I hope these relations will expand and become stronger."
