Russia will render Libya $7 million in humanitarian aid, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

“Our country will provide Libya with humanitarian aid via international organizations to a total amount of $7 million,” a ministry spokesman said.

The head of the UN's humanitarian mission in Libya, Panos Moumtzis said that the UN would finish its work in late November.

Moumtzis said that the Transitional National Council had told the UN that they could cope with the country's humanitarian problems without outside assistance.

France will also discuss its possible humanitarian aid to Libya after NATO ends its military campaign on October 31, the French Foreign Ministry said.

Libya’s ruling National Transitional Council has, however, said it wants NATO to extend its mission until at least the end of the year.

The country’s deposed leader Muammar Gaddafi, who had ruled Libya for 42 years, was killed last week in unclear circumstances after being captured by National Transitional Council fighters near his home town of Sirte.
