Russia takes silver in women's weightlifting in Beijing

MOSCOW, August 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Oxana Slivenko won an Olympic silver medal at the Beijing games on Wednesday in the women's 69kg weightlifting event with host nation China taking yet another gold.

The 21-year-old Russian, the former world record holder in both the snatch and clean and jerk categories, lifted a total of 255 kg.

But it was defending champion Liu Chunhong, who set three world records in a row to smash Slivenko previous records with a total lift of 286 kg to bring China its 17th gold medal of the games.

Ukraine's Natalya Davydova took the bronze with a lift of 250 kg.

China has completely dominated the weightlifting event at the Beijing Olympics with a total of six gold medals.
