Liverpool responded quickly on Wednesday to reports that attacking midfielder Yossi Benayoun was set to sign for Dynamo Moscow.

"The player is not for sale, it's as simple as that," a club spokesman was quoted as saying on the team's official website.

Dynamo's sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya earlier told fcdin.com that, "We have come to an agreement with the player's agent. Everything depends on Liverpool now."

"When we completed the signing of [Ukrainian striker] Andriy Voronin, consent was given by Benitez," Sarsaniya added. "Now the Liverpool manager is against losing Benayoun, but the decision is not his, it is for the club's directors to make."
