India must walk a fine line, between its ties with Russia and its new ties with the US. As the US cuts into the Indian arms market selling high end equipment to India. US sales will also cut into the Israel defense industry sales to India. While it is not a threat to Russia now it may well be in the future if the US muscles Russia out of the market place. In which case Russia will have little choice to fine another market which would be Pakistan to supplement the loss of earnings. The same goes for Israel who would resume sales of high end equipment to the PRC and or Pakistan.

Russia-India partnership

India and Russia are genuine and natural strategic partners, and are the only two major powers in the entire annals of international relations which have never had any clash of interests. One of the most important elements of Indo-Russian strategic partnership is defence cooperation. Seventy per cent to 85 per cent of our Air Force, Army and Navy are equipped with military hardware of Soviet or Russian origin.
