Many fans brought Russian flags and posters screened with Putin’s image. Fans in the stands opposite the distinguished guest box unfurled banners with the Russian-language inscription: “Elder brother, please kiss our mother and tell her that we are worthy, that we are struggling, and that we will continue to struggle. Tell her that we love her.”
