Russia, S. Korea, U.S. envoys to meet for N. Korea nuke talks

11:26 29/05/2008
MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Delegations from South Korea and the U.S. are due to meet in Moscow over the next two days to discuss North Korea's nuclear program ahead of six-nation talks.

The long-running six nations talks, comprising North and South Koreas, the U.S., China, Japan and Russia, stalled last December after Pyongyang failed to give full details of its nuclear program, in particular information on uranium enrichment and nuclear technology, which it is suspected of passing to other countries.

The head of Russia's delegation Alexei Borodavkin will meet with South Korea's chief envoy Kim Sook on Thursday and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill on Friday. During his visit Kim Sook will also meet with Hill.

Borodavkin said: "We are in favor of the six party process continuing on North Korea's denuclearization problem and other issues - in exchange for fuel deliveries and the issue of security guarantees in northeastern Asia," adding that a timetable for the Pyongyang nuclear program would be discussed during the meetings.

Christopher Hill held talks with North Korea's top negotiator Kim Kye-gwan in Beijing Wednesday to try and reach an agreement on a timeframe for completing the nuclear talks.

"We had very good discussion...but I'm not prepared at this time to announce any timetable (for declaration)," Hill was cited by the Xinhua news agency as saying following the meeting.
