NEW DELHI, August 1 (RIA Novosti) - At least 35 people died when a train caught fire on Friday in south India's Andhra Pradesh state, the country's ministry of railways has said.
The tragedy occurred just after midnight as passengers of the Gouthami Express were sleeping. Eight people were also taken to hospitals with burns.
The fire broke out in one of the carriages and quickly spread to four others. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
The Indian government has promised to pay $12,000 in compensation to each of the families of the deceased.
