TEL-AVIV/GAZA, December 24 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli armed forces have killed three Palestinian militants in a border shootout in northern Gaza, a spokesman for the Israeli Defense Forces said on Wednesday.
Israeli soldiers shot at three militants who were trying to plant an explosive device on the border fence late on Tuesday. The militants set off the bomb and fought back with grenades, but were killed when the Israelis returned fire.
The border incident was the deadliest since the six-month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas expired four days ago.
In response to the deaths, Palestinian militants fired 14 rockets and eight mortar shells from the northern Gaza Strip towards the western Negev overnight, with no casualties reported, the Ynet news portal said on Wednesday.
