WASHINGTON, October 23 (RIA Novosti) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Pakistan in the near future, the U.S. envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan said on Friday.
"She will see the leadership of the country, the leading members of the opposition, civil society, businessmen and as many people she can in a limited period of time and within the limits of a very, very dramatic situation going on in the country," Richard Holbrooke told journalists at a news conference.
The date of the visit has not been released for security reasons.
Pakistan has seen almost daily attacks by militants in recent weeks. On Saturday, the military launched a large-scale offensive against the Pakistani-based Taliban in its stronghold of South Waziristan, near the Afghan border.
U.S. President Barack Obama signed legislation on October 15 providing Pakistan with $7.5 billion in aid over the next five years. Some of the funds are conditional on Pakistan fighting Taliban militants.
