Nine people were killed and 45 injured after an explosive device went off at a snack-bar in the town of Pune, in west India, the Hindustan Times reported.

The blast went of at around 7:00 p.m. local time on Saturday at the German Bakery, which is known to be a popular venue for foreigners. One of the victims, according to the newspaper, was indentified as a foreigner.

"A bomb disposal squad confirmed it to be a bomb blast. Details of the explosives used are being ascertained," the newspaper reported quoting a spokesperson of the Army's Southern Command as saying.

So far no one has claimed responsibility for the terrorist act.

According to the newspaper, the attack is the first major after the Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008.

More than 10 coordinated terror attacks hit the Indian city of Mumbai in 59 hours starting on November 26, 2008, claiming at least 166 lives and wounding more than 300 people.
