Around 20 people were killed and 37 injured after Taliban gunmen attacked the city of Tirin Kot in Afghanistan’s Uruzgan Province on Thursday.

At least ten children, a policeman, and four women were among the dead, according to local hospital director Khan Aga Miyakheil.

A large group of attackers - including suicide bombers - were involved in an assault on the governor’s building, police headquarters and the local government broadcasting service building.

NATO helicopter gunships helped to fight off the attack.

At least two of the attackers were also killed, according to the Afghan Interior Ministry.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban also killed a police chief in the town of Lashkar Gah in Helmand Province on Wednesday evening and attacked the home of a regional governor in Logar Province early on Thursday.
